There are four categories of women between whom and their husbands there is no mutual imprecation (mulāʿanah): a Christian woman married to a Muslim, a slave woman married to a slave man, a slave woman married to a free man, and a free woman married to a slave man.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThis is ʿUthmān b. ʿAṭāʾ al-Khurāsānī, who is extremely weak (ḍaʿīf) in ḥadīth. He was followed by Yazīd b. Bazīʿ from ʿAṭāʾ, who is also weak. It is also reported from al-Awzāʿī and Ibn Jurayj, who are both leading imams, from ʿAmr b. Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, as his own statement, and they did not raise it to the Prophet ﷺ.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThe chains of transmission of this ḥadīth to ʿAmr are not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationYaḥyā b. Abī Unaysah also [reported it] from ʿAmr b. Shuʿayb with it, as a statement of a Companion (mawqūf), and he is abandoned (matrūk).

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThe authenticity of this as a mawqūf report is also open to question, for the narrator of the first is ʿUmar b. Hārūn, who is not strong, and the narrator of the second is Yaḥyā b. Abī Unaysah, who is abandoned (matrūk). As for what al-Shāfiʿī said, that it is broken in transmission (munqaṭiʿ), perhaps it was conveyed to al-Shāfiʿī as ʿAmr b. Shuʿayb related it from ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr, and that is undoubtedly broken. But whoever narrated it as raised (marfūʿ) or as mawqūf only narrated it from ʿAmr, from his father, from his grandfather, and that is considered connected by the people of ḥadīth. Some of them named the grandfather in this report and said ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr, and Shuʿayb b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh's hearing from his grandfather ʿAbdullāh is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ). However, the chain to ʿAmr must be authentic.
