I saw ʿAlī perform ablution and wipe, then he said: "Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over the top of the feet, I would have thought that the bottom of them, or the underside of them, was more deserving of that."

  • Mubarakpūri

machine translationIt is authentically reported (ṣaḥīḥ) from ʿAlī with a sound (ṣaḥīḥ) chain of transmission.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationAbū al-Sawdāʾ also narrated it in the same way from Ibn ʿAbd Khayr, from his father. The two authors of the Ṣaḥīḥ collections did not use ʿAbd Khayr as evidence. So this report, and what has been narrated with a similar meaning, only intends the feet covered by the leather socks (khuff), by the evidence of what has preceded, and by the evidence of what we narrated from Khālid b. ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbd Khayr, from ʿAlī, in his description of the ablution of the Prophet ﷺ, where he mentioned that he washed his feet three times each.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThe correct report in this matter is the statement of the one who said: "I used to think that the underside of the leather socks (khuffayn) was more deserving of wiping than their top."
