I came to Ṣafwān b. ʿAssāl al-Murādī, and he said: "What brought you?" I said: "I came seeking knowledge." He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'There is no one who goes out from his house in search of knowledge except that the angels lower their wings for him, pleased with what he does.'" He said: "I came to ask you about wiping over the two leather socks." He said: "Yes. I was in the army that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out, and he commanded us to wipe over the two leather socks, if we put them on while in a state of purity, for three days when we travel and one day and night when we are resident, and not to take them off because of urine, stool, or sleep, and not to take them off except because of major ritual impurity (janābah)."
