( أَخْبَرَنَا ) أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا نَصْرٍ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ سَهْلٍ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ صَالِحَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ الْجُعْفِيَّ يَقُولُ: قَالَ لِي خَالِي حُسَيْنٌ الْجُعْفِيُّ:
يَا بُنَيَّ، تَدْرِي لِمَ سُمِّيَ عُثْمَانُ " ذُو النُّورَيْنِ " ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا أَدْرِي، قَالَ: لَمْ يَجْمَعِ اللهُ بَيْنَ ابْنَتَيْ نَبِيٍّ مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللهُ آدَمَ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ لِغَيْرِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ؓ؛ فَلِذَلِكَ سُمِّيَ " ذُو النُّورَيْنِ
