ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) appointed me to collect the charity (ṣadaqah). When I had finished it and delivered it to him, he ordered a payment for my work. I said: "I only worked for God and His Messenger, and my reward is with God." He said: "Take what you are given, for I worked during the time of the Messenger of God ﷺ and he gave me a payment, and I said the same as you said. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said to me: 'If you are given something without having asked for it, then eat it and give in charity.'"
