(Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī and Abū Bakr b. al-Ḥārith informed us, both saying: ʿAlī b. ʿUmar the Ḥāfiẓ informed us, Abū Muḥammad b. Ṣāʿid narrated to us, and he mentioned it. ʿAlī said: Ziyād b. Saʿd is among the trustworthy memorizers, and this is a good, connected chain. The Shaykh said: Others have narrated it from Sufyān, from Ziyād, as a mursal report, and that is the preserved version. Abū ʿAmr al-Awzāʿī and Yūnus b. Yazīd al-Aylī narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Ibn al-Musayyab, as a mursal report, except that they made the statement "he has its gain and he bears its loss" a saying of Ibn al-Musayyab. And Allah knows best.):

machine translationZiyād b. Saʿd is among the trustworthy memorizers (ḥuffāẓ thiqāt), and this is a good (ḥasan), connected chain.

machine translationThe soundest view is that it is mursal. Even though it has been transmitted as connected through many routes, all of them are flawed (muʿallal). Some narrators added to it: "He is entitled to its gain and bears its loss." There is disagreement about whether this addition is marfūʿ and whether it is from the words of Ibn al-Musayyab.

machine translationIt is the hadith of Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. Some of them narrate it as mursal from Saʿīd, and some make it his own statement.

machine translationThere is disagreement about whether it is connected (mawṣūl) or mursal, and whether it is traced back to the Prophet (marfūʿ) or halted at a Companion (mawqūf). That prevents it from standing up against what is in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī.
