I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a bowl of bread and meat, and he said: "What is this, Salman?" I said: "Charity." So he did not eat, and he said to his Companions: "Eat." Then I came to him with a bowl of bread and meat, and he said: "What is this, Salman?" I said: "A gift." So he ate, and he said: "We eat a gift, and we do not eat charity." He said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about the Christians?" He said: "O Salman, there is no good in the Christians, nor in whoever loves them" (three times), "except one who is upon the like of the religion of your companion." He said: So I knew that my companion had been upon the religion of ʿĪsā, meaning the monk with whom Salman had been.
