I had a wet dream on a cold night during the expedition of Dhāt al-Salāsil. I feared that if I performed the ritual bath I would perish, so I performed tayammum and then led my companions in the dawn prayer. They mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: "O ʿAmr, you led your companions in prayer while you were in a state of janābah?" So I told him what had prevented me from bathing, and I said: I heard Allah, Blessed and Exalted, say: {وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا} The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and said nothing.
