Khalīfah, he said: from al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Musayyab, from his father, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, from the Prophet ﷺ. Some of them narrated it and said: from al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Musayyab, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf). Some of them narrated it and said: from al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Musayyab, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. I said to my father: Which of them is correct? He said: It is inconsistent (muḍṭarib). I repeated the question to him, but he added nothing to his saying "it is inconsistent." Then he said: From al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Musayyab, from Yūnus b. Khabbāb, from Abū Saʿīd, as a mawqūf and mursal report, is more likely. I said to my father: Did Yūnus not hear from Abū Saʿīd? He said: No. Abū Zurʿah said: Some of them said: al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Musayyab, from Yūnus b. Khabbāb, from Abū Saʿīd, as a mawqūf report. He said: And Abū Zurʿah said: The correct version is from al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Musayyab, from his father, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Prophet ﷺ.
