✧ From Abu Sinan al-Du’ali that he entered upon Umar b. al-Khattab while a group of the foremost Muhajirun were with him. Umar sent for a basket that had been brought from a fortress in Iraq, and in it was a ring. One of his sons took it and put it in his mouth, but Umar snatched it from him. Then Umar wept. Those with him said: “Why do you weep when Allah has opened for you, made you victorious over your enemy, and brought joy to your eye?” Umar said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The world is not opened for any people but that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, casts enmity and hatred among them until the Day of Resurrection, and I fear that.”
