حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنَ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ الْقَعْقَاعِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مَا قَعَدْتُ خِلَافَ سَرِيَّةٍ تَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَلَكِنْ لَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُهُمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ سَعَةً فَيَتْبَعُونِي، وَلَا تَطِيبُ أَنْفُسُهُمْ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا بَعْدِي

✧ By the One in whose hand is my soul, were it not that I would burden my community, I would not sit behind any expedition that raids in the cause of God, Mighty and Majestic. But I do not find what to carry them on, and they do not find the means to follow me, and they are not pleased to stay behind after me.
