حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ الْجُلَاحِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

" أَنَّ نَاسًا أَتَوُا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالُوا: إِنَّا نَبْعُدُ فِي الْبَحْرِ وَلَا نَحْمِلُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ إِلَّا الْإِدَاوَةَ وَالْإِدَاوَتَيْنِ لِأَنَّا لَا نَجِدُ الصَّيْدَ حَتَّى نَبْعُدَ، أَفَنَتَوَضَّأُ بِمَاءِ الْبَحْرِ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَإِنَّهُ الْحِلُّ مَيْتَتُهُ، الطَّهُورُ مَاؤُهُ

Translation

✧ Some people came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: We travel far at sea and carry only a small water skin or two, because we cannot find fresh water until we go far. Can we perform ablution with seawater? He said: Yes, for its dead are lawful and its water is purifying.
