حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا سَلِيمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ
إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ " مَرَّتَيْنِ، قَالُوا: فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلَكُمْ، إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي، فَلَا تُكَلِّفُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ
Translation

✧ "Beware of continuous fasting," twice. They said, "But you fast continuously, O Messenger of God." He said, "I am not like you in that. I spend the night with my Lord feeding me and giving me drink. So do not burden yourselves with deeds you cannot bear."
