✧ A man said: 'Tonight I shall certainly give charity.' He took out his charity and placed it in the hand of an adulteress. In the morning people were saying: 'Charity was given tonight to an adulteress.' Then he said: 'Tonight I shall certainly give charity.' He took out his charity and placed it in the hand of a thief. In the morning people were saying: 'Charity was given tonight to a thief.' And he said: 'Tonight I shall certainly give charity.' He took out the charity and placed it in the hand of a rich man. In the morning people were saying: 'Charity was given tonight to a rich man.' He said: 'Praise be to Allah for a thief, for an adulteress, and for a rich man.' He said: He was brought someone and it was said to him: 'As for your charity, it has been accepted. As for the adulteress, perhaps—that is—she will become chaste through it. As for the thief, perhaps he will become self-sufficient through it. As for the rich man, perhaps he will take a lesson and spend from what Allah has given him.'
