✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away and Abu Bakr was made caliph, al-Abbas disputed with Ali over things the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had left behind. Abu Bakr said, 'It is something the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left, and he did not move it, so I will not move it.' When Umar was made caliph, they brought their dispute to him and he said, 'It is something Abu Bakr did not move, so I am not going to move it.' He said: When Uthman was made caliph, they brought their dispute to him. He said: Uthman fell silent and lowered his head. Ibn Abbas said: I feared he would take it, so I struck my hand between al-Abbas's shoulders and said, 'O my father, I adjure you to hand it over to Ali.' He said: So he handed it over to him.
