حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ
مَا مِنْ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ إِلَّا عَلَى هَذِهِ الْمِلَّةِ، حَتَّى يُبِينَ عَنْهُ لِسَانُهُ فَأَبَوَاهُ يُهَوِّدَانِهِ أَوْ يُنَصِّرَانِهِ أَوْ يُشَرِّكَانِهِ. قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَكَيْفَ مَا كَانَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: اللهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا كَانُوا عَامِلِينَ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Every child is born upon this religion (Islam), until their tongue is made clear by their parents making them Jews, Christians, or idolaters." They asked: "O Messenger of Allah, so how were their parents before that?" He said: "Allah knows best about what they used to do."
