What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

machine translationHe deemed it defective because of Ibn ʿAqīl, and it is a rejected (munkar) hadith.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 732
  • Bazzār

machine translationWe do not know anyone who corroborated Ibn ʿAqīl on it, and we do not know anyone who narrated it from him other than Ḥammād b. Salamah.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 732
  • Shawkānī

machine translationIn its chain is ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad b. ʿAqīl, who has poor memory (sayyiʾ al-ḥifẓ); his hadith is not fit to be used as evidence when it contradicts the trustworthy (thiqāt) narrators, as is the case here.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 732
  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationIbn ʿAqīl has poor memory (sayyiʾ al-ḥifẓ); his hadith is fit for corroboration (mutābaʿāt). If he is alone in narrating, it is considered good (ḥasan), but if he contradicts others, it is not accepted. Here he has even contradicted his own narration.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 732
