✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed one of the two evening prayers (he said: Abu Hurayrah mentioned it, and Muhammad forgot it) and prayed two rak'ahs, then gave the greeting, and went to a piece of wood placed crosswise in the mosque. He placed his hand on it as if he were angry. The quick ones among the people rushed out of the doors of the mosque, saying, 'The prayer has been shortened.' Among the people were Abu Bakr and Umar, but they were too awed to speak to him. Among the people was a man with long hands called Dhu al-Yadayn, who said, 'O Messenger of Allah, did you forget, or has the prayer been shortened?' He said, 'I did not forget, nor has the prayer been shortened.' He said, 'Is it as Dhu al-Yadayn says?' They said, 'Yes.' So he came and prayed what he had left, then gave the greeting, then said the takbir and prostrated like his prostration or longer, then raised his head and said the takbir, then said the takbir and prostrated like his prostration or longer, then raised his head and said the takbir. Muhammad was asked, 'Then did he give the greeting?' He would say, 'I was informed that Imran b. Husayn said: Then he gave the greeting.'
