حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ

يَتْرُكُونَ الْمَدِينَةَ عَلَى خَيْرِ مَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ، لَا يَغْشَاهَا إِلَّا الْعَوَافِي ( قَالَ: يُرِيدُ عَوَافَ السِّبَاعِ وَالطَّيْرِ ). وَآخِرُ مَنْ يُحْشَرُ رَاعِيَانِ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ يَنْعِقَانِ بِغَنَمِهِمَا فَيَجِدَاهَا وُحُوشًا، حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ حُشِرَا عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمَا ( أَوْ خَرَّا عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمَا )

Translation

  3. al-Zuhrī
  4. Saʿīd
  5. Abū Hurayrah
  6. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ They will leave Madinah in the best state it has ever been; none will visit it except the wild creatures (he said: meaning the beasts of prey and birds). And the last to be gathered will be two shepherds from Muzaynah, calling out to their sheep, only to find them wild. When they reach the mountain pass of al-Wada', they will be gathered upon their faces (or fall upon their faces).
