✧ I said: O Abu Muhammad, we are in a land where we do not find the dinar and the dirham; our wealth is only livestock, so we barter them among ourselves. We buy a cow with a sheep on credit until a term, and a camel with cows, and a horse with camels, all of that until a term. Is there any harm upon us in that? He said: You have asked one who knows. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to send out an army on camels that I had. He said: So I mounted the people on them until the camels ran out, and a remnant of the people remained. He said: So I said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: O Messenger of Allah, the camels have run out, and a remnant of the people remain who have no mounts. He said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Buy camels for us with young she-camels from the zakat camels until their due time, so that we can dispatch this expedition. He said: So I would buy a camel for two or three young she-camels from the zakat camels until their due time, until I dispatched that expedition. He said: So when the zakat became due, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid it.
