✧ I entered upon Abdullah b. Amr b. al-As, and he questioned me, thinking that I was from Umm Kulthum, daughter of Uqba. I said, "I am only from al-Kalbiyya." He said: Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered my house and said, 'Have I not been told that you recite the Qur'an every day and night? So recite it once every month.' I said, 'I can do more than that.' He said, 'Then recite it in half of every month.' He said: I said, 'I can do more than that.' He said, 'Then recite it every seven days, do not increase.' And it reached me that you fast the whole year? He said: I said, 'I do fast it, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Then fast three days of every month.' He said: I said, 'I can do more than that.' He said, 'Then fast two days every week.' He said: I said, 'I can do more than that.' He said, 'Then fast the fast of Dawud, fast one day and break the fast one day; for it is the most just fast in the sight of Allah.' And he never broke a promise when he made one, nor did he flee when he met the enemy."
