✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ met me and said: Was I not told that you stand in prayer at night? Or are you the one who says: I will certainly stand at night and fast during the day? He said: I think he said: Yes, O Messenger of God, I said that. He said: Then stand and sleep, fast and break the fast. Fast three days of every month, and you will have the like of fasting for a lifetime. I said: O Messenger of God, I can do more than that. He said: Then fast one day and break the fast for two. I said: I can do better than that. He said: Then fast one day and break the fast for one, and that is the most balanced fast. It is the fast of Dawud. I said: I can do better than that. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: There is nothing better than that.
