✧ I was with my master 'Ali b. Abu Talib when the people of al-Nahrawan were killed. It was as if the people felt uneasy about killing them. 'Ali said: 'O people, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us about a people who will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through the target, and then they will never return to it until the arrow returns to its notch. The sign of that is that among them is a black man with a deformed hand, one of his hands like a woman's breast, with a nipple like the nipple of a woman's breast, around it seven hairs. So search for him, for I think he is among them.' They searched and found him at the edge of the river under the slain. They brought him out, and 'Ali said: 'Allahu akbar. Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.' He had a bow of his own, which he took in his hand and began poking at the deformed limb, saying: 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.' The people said 'Allahu akbar' when they saw him and rejoiced, and their unease left them.
