✧ I heard a man from Muzaynah asking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have come to ask you about a stray camel." He said: "With it are its shoes and its water-skin; it eats trees and comes to water, so leave it until its owner finds it." He said: "A stray sheep?" He said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf. Keep it until its owner comes." He said: "A stolen animal found in its grazing grounds?" He said: "In it is its value twice, and a exemplary punishment. Whatever is taken from its resting place, in it is cutting off the hand if what is taken reaches the value of a shield." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what about fruits and what is taken from them in their calyxes?" He said: "Whoever takes with his mouth and does not take a bundle, there is nothing upon him. Whoever carries away, upon him is its value twice, and a exemplary punishment. Whatever is taken from its storage places, in it is cutting off the hand if what is taken reaches the value of a shield." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what about lost property we find on a traveled road?" He said: "Announce it for a year; if its owner is found, give it to him, otherwise it is yours." He said: "What is found in ancient ruins?" He said: "In it, and in buried treasure, is one-fifth."
