✧ A man asked Ibn ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ: “An orphan was in my care, and I gave him a slave girl as charity. Then he died, and I am his heir.” ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr said to him: “I will tell you what I heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb gave a horse in the path of God, then found its owner had stopped it and was selling it. He wanted to buy it, so he asked the Messenger of God ﷺ, who forbade him and said: ‘When you give something as charity, carry it through.’”
