حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ حَدَّثَنِي عَيَّاشُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ هِلَالٍ الصَّدَفِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ
أَتَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَقْرِنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ لَهُ: اقْرَأْ ثَلَاثًا مِنْ ذَاتِ الرَّاءِ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: كَبِرَتْ سِنِّي، وَاشْتَدَّ قَلْبِي، وَغَلُظَ لِسَانِي قَالَ: فَاقْرَأْ مِنْ ذَاتِ، حم فَقَالَ مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الْأُولَى، فَقَالَ: اقْرَأْ ثَلَاثًا مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحَاتِ. فَقَالَ مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: وَلَكِنْ أَقْرِنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ سُورَةً جَامِعَةً. فَأَقْرَأَهُ، إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الأَرْضُ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ: وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَيْهَا أَبَدًا. ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَفْلَحَ الرُّوَيْجِلُ أَفْلَحَ الرُّوَيْجِلُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: عَلَيَّ بِهِ. فَجَاءَهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: أُمِرْتُ بِيَوْمِ الْأَضْحَى جَعَلَهُ اللهُ عِيدًا لِهَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ. فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ أَجِدْ إِلَّا مَنِيحَةَ ابْنِي، أَفَأُضَحِّي بِهَا ؟ قَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنَّكَ تَأْخُذُ مِنْ شَعَرِكَ، وَتُقَلِّمُ أَظْفَارَكَ، وَتَقُصُّ شَارِبَكَ، وَتَحْلِقُ عَانَتَكَ. فَذَلِكَ تَمَامُ أُضْحِيَّتِكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ

✧ A man came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: ‘Teach me to recite, O Messenger of God.’ He said to him: ‘Recite three from those beginning with al-Ra’.’ The man said: ‘My age has grown, my heart has hardened, and my tongue has become thick.’ He said: ‘Then recite from those beginning with Ha-Mim.’ He said the same as his first statement. Then he said: ‘Recite three from the Musabbihat.’ He said the same as his statement. Then the man said: ‘But teach me, O Messenger of God, a comprehensive surah.’ So he taught him: ‘When the earth is shaken…’ until he finished it. The man said: ‘By the One who sent you with truth, I will never add anything to it.’ Then the man turned away, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said: ‘The little man has succeeded, the little man has succeeded.’ Then he said: ‘Bring him to me.’ He came, and he said to him: ‘I have been commanded regarding the Day of Sacrifice; God made it a feast for this community.’ The man said: ‘What do you think if I find only the loaned she-camel of my son—should I sacrifice it?’ He said: ‘No, but you take from your hair, trim your nails, clip your moustache, and shave your pubic hair. That is the completion of your sacrifice before God.’
