✧ I, Fatimah, al-'Abbas, and Zayd b. Harithah gathered before the Messenger of God ﷺ. Al-'Abbas said: O Messenger of God, I have grown old, my bones have thinned, and my expenses have increased. If you see fit, O Messenger of God, to order for me such-and-such a quantity of food, do so. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'We shall do it.' Fatimah said: O Messenger of God, if you see fit to order for me as you ordered for your uncle, do so. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'We shall do that.' Then Zayd b. Harithah said: O Messenger of God, you had given me land from which I made my living, then you took it back. If you see fit to return it to me, do so. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'We shall do that.' I said: O Messenger of God, if you see fit to entrust me with this right that God has assigned to us in His Book from this khums, I would distribute it during your lifetime so that no one may dispute it with me after you. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'We shall do that.' So the Messenger of God ﷺ entrusted it to me, and I distributed it during his lifetime. Then Abu Bakr entrusted it to me, and I distributed it during his lifetime. Then 'Umar entrusted it to me, and I distributed it during his lifetime, until the last year of 'Umar's reign, when a great amount of wealth came to him.
