حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ
بَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ إِلَى بَنِي أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: جَذِيمَةَ [أَوْ قَالَ: جَدِيمَةَ]. فَدَعَاهُمْ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ فَلَمْ يُحْسِنُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا: أَسْلَمْنَا، فَجَعَلُوا يَقُولُونَ: صَبَأْنَا صَبَأْنَا، وَجَعَلَ خَالِدٌ بِهِمْ أَسْرًا وَقَتْلًا. قَالَ: وَدَفَعَ إِلَى كُلِّ رَجُلٍ مِنَّا أَسِيرًا، حَتَّى إِذَا أَصْبَحَ يَوْمًا أَمَرَ خَالِدٌ أَنْ يَقْتُلَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنَّا أَسِيرَهُ. قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: فَقُلْتُ: وَاللهِ لَا أَقْتُلُ أَسِيرِي، وَلَا يَقْتُلُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِي أَسِيرَهُ. قَالَ: فَقَدِمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَذَكَرُوا لَهُ صَنِيعَ خَالِدٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَبْرَأُ إِلَيْكَ مِمَّا صَنَعَ خَالِدٌ مَرَّتَيْنِ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ sent Khalid b. al-Walid to Banu—I think he said: Judhaymah [or he said: Jadhimah]. He called them to Islam, but they were not good at saying 'we have submitted,' so they kept saying 'we have become Sabians, we have become Sabians,' and Khalid took them as captives and killed them. He said: And he gave each man among us a captive, until one morning Khalid ordered that each man among us should kill his captive. Ibn Umar said: I said: By Allah, I will not kill my captive, and no man among my companions will kill his captive. He said: They came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned to him what Khalid had done. The Prophet ﷺ said, raising his hands: O Allah, I declare my innocence to You from what Khalid has done—twice.
