✧ Uthman b. Maz‘un died and left a daughter from Khuwaylah bt. Hakim b. Umayyah b. Harithah b. al-Awqas. He said: He had entrusted his brother Qudamah b. Maz‘un. Abdullah said: They are both my maternal uncles. He said: I proposed to Qudamah b. Maz‘un for the daughter of Uthman b. Maz‘un, and he married her to me. Al-Mughirah b. Shu‘bah went to her mother and made her desire wealth, so she inclined to him, and the girl inclined to her mother's desire, and they refused, until their matter was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Qudamah b. Maz‘un said: 'O Messenger of Allah, she is the daughter of my brother; he entrusted her to me, and I married her to her paternal cousin Abdullah b. Umar. I did not fall short regarding her in righteousness or suitability, but she is a woman, and she inclined to her mother's desire.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'She is an orphan, and she may not be married except with her permission.' He said: By Allah, she was taken from me after I had possessed her, and they married her to al-Mughirah b. Shu‘bah.
