✧ A man came to Ibn Umar and said: "O Ibn Umar, I am going to ask you about something that you will narrate to me." He said: "Yes." He mentioned Uthman. Ibn Umar said: "As for his absence from Badr, it was because he was married to the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and she was ill. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'You will have the reward of a man who was present at Badr and his share.' As for his absence from the Pledge of al-Ridwan, if there had been anyone more esteemed in the heart of Makkah than Uthman, he would have sent him. So he sent Uthman. The Pledge of al-Ridwan took place after Uthman had gone to Makkah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his right hand and said: 'This is Uthman's hand,' and struck it with his other hand, saying: 'This is for Uthman.' Ibn Umar then said to the man: 'Go now with this.'
