حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ اصْطَنَعَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، وَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ إِذَا لَبِسَهُ فَصَنَعَ النَّاسُ، ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ جَلَسَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَنَزَعَهُ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتَمَ وَأَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِنْ دَاخِلٍ، فَرَمَى بِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: وَاللهِ لَا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا، فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a ring made of gold, and he used to wear it with its stone facing the inside of his palm. So people made rings. Then he sat on the pulpit and took it off, saying: "I used to wear this ring and keep its stone on the inside." He threw it away and said: "By Allah, I will never wear it again." So people threw away their rings.
