حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ
اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنِّي اتَّخَذْتُ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَنَبَذْتُهُ. وَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَسْتُ أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا، فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ
Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a gold ring, so the people took gold rings. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I took a gold ring and then discarded it.' And he said: 'I will never wear it.' So the people discarded their rings.
