✧ The likeness of this community (or he said: my community) and the likeness of the Jews and Christians is like a man who said, 'Who will work for me from the early morning until midday for one qīrāṭ?' The Jews said, 'We will,' and they did. Then he said, 'Who will work for me from midday until the ʿaṣr prayer for one qīrāṭ?' The Christians said, 'We will,' and they worked. And you, the Muslims, work from the ʿaṣr prayer until nightfall for two qīrāṭs. The Jews and Christians became angry and said, 'We work more but receive less.' He said, 'Have I wronged you in any of your wages?' They said, 'No.' He said, 'That is My bounty; I give it to whomever I will.'
