✧ Ibn Umar gathered his sons when the people of Madinah revolted with Ibn al-Zubayr and deposed Yazid b. Muawiyah, and he said: 'We pledged allegiance to this man with the pledge of Allah and His Messenger, and I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The treacherous one will have a banner set up for him on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said: This is the treachery of so-and-so." Indeed, among the greatest treachery, except for associating partners with Allah Most High, is for a man to pledge allegiance to another on the pledge of Allah and His Messenger, then break his pledge. So let none of you depose Yazid, and let none of you go to excess in this matter, lest it be a calamity between me and you.'
