✧ Abdullah b. Umar used to give fatwa according to the concession that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down for tamattu', and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in it. People said to Ibn Umar: How can you contradict your father when he forbade that? Abdullah said to them: Woe to you, do you not fear Allah? If Umar forbade that, he sought good in it by seeking the completion of the Umrah. Why do you forbid what Allah has made lawful and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ practiced? Is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more worthy that you follow his Sunnah or the Sunnah of Umar? Umar did not say to you: Umrah in the months of Hajj is forbidden, but he said: The most complete Umrah is that you single it out from the months of Hajj.

machine translationThe narration of Ibn ʿUmar concerning tamattuʿ cannot be relied upon, for two reasons. One of them is that his statement is inconsistent (muḍṭarib): Bakr b. ʿAbdullāh narrated from him that he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pronounced the talbiyah for Hajj alone.
