حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ

الْمَسْأَلَةُ كُدُوحٌ فِي وَجْهِ صَاحِبِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَسْتَبْقِ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ، وَأَهْوَنُ الْمَسْأَلَةِ مَسْأَلَةُ ذِي الرَّحِمِ تَسْأَلُهُ فِي حَاجَةٍ، وَخَيْرُ الْمَسْأَلَةِ الْمَسْأَلَةُ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ

Translation

Chain of narrators

  5. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ Begging is a scratch on the face of its owner on the Day of Resurrection. So whoever wishes, let him keep it off his face. The lightest form of begging is when a relative asks you for a need, and the best form of asking is asking from a position of self-sufficiency. Begin with those you support.
