✧ I heard Uthman delivering a sermon on the pulpit saying: I used to buy dates from a clan of the Jews called Banu Qaynuqa', then sell them for a profit of a few saa's. The Prophet ﷺ heard of that and said: O Uthman, when you buy, measure out, and when you sell, measure out.

machine translationThis is a suspended report (taʿlīq) which al-Dāraquṭnī connected through the route of ʿUbayd Allāh b. al-Mughīrah, from Munqidh, the freed slave of Surāqah, from ʿUthmān. However, Munqidh is of unknown condition (majhūl al-ḥāl). But it has another route, which Aḥmad, Ibn Mājah and al-Bazzār narrated through Mūsā b. Wardān, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyib, from ʿUthmān, with it. If you say: Ibn Lahīʿah is in its chain, I say: it is from his early hadith, because Ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam recorded it in Futūḥ Miṣr through the route of al-Layth, from him.
