✧ I was with Ibn ʿUmar, then I got up and left a man from Kindah with him, and I went to Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab. Then the Kindī came in alarm and said: “A man came to Ibn ʿUmar and said: ‘Shall I swear by the Kaʿbah?’ He replied: ‘No, but swear by the Lord of the Kaʿbah, for ʿUmar used to swear by his father, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not swear by your father; for whoever swears by other than Allah has committed shirk.”’”
