حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ جَبَلَةَ بْنِ سُحَيْمٍ قَالَ

كَانَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ يَرْزُقُنَا التَّمْرَ، قَالَ: وَقَدْ كَانَ أَصَابَ النَّاسَ يَوْمَئِذٍ جَهْدٌ، فَكُنَّا نَأْكُلُ فَيَمُرُّ عَلَيْنَا ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَنَحْنُ نَأْكُلُ فَيَقُولُ: لَا تُقَارِنُوا فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْإِقْرَانِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْتَأْذِنَ الرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ،

Translation

✧ Ibn al-Zubayr used to provide us with dates. He said: The people had then been afflicted by hardship, so we used to eat. Ibn Umar would pass by us while we were eating and say: Do not eat two dates together, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade eating two dates together unless a man asks permission from his brother.
