حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ
عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَقُولُ: مَا كُنَّا نَدْعُوهُ إِلَّا زَيْدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَتَّى نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ ادْعُوهُمْ لآبَائِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللهِ
Translation

✧ On the authority of Zaid bin Harithah al-Kalbi, the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: Abdullah bin Umar used to say, "We used to only call him the son of Muhammad until the Quran was revealed, {Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah.} [Al-Ahzab: 5]."
