حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى

اشْتَكَى عُمَرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ عَيْنَيْهِ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى أَبَانَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَهُوَ أَمِيرٌ مَا يَصْنَعُ بِهِمَا ؟ قَالَ: قَالَ: ضَمَّدَهُمَا بِالصَّبِرِ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ.

Translation

ʿUmar bin ʿUbaidullah bin Maʿmar had a problem in his eyes. He sent word to Aban bin ʿUthman ؓ - Sufyan said: He was the Ameer (of Hajj) - to ask what he should do. He said: Apply aloes to them, for I heard ‘Uthman ؓ narrate that from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
