حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَبَاحٌ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ صَدَقَةَ الْمَكِّيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ اعْتَكَفَ وَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا قَامَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَإِنَّهُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ فَلْيَعْلَمْ أَحَدُكُمْ مَا يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ، وَلَا يَجْهَرْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ".

Translation

That the Prophet ﷺ did iʿtikāf (performed spiritual retreat) and gave a sermon to the people, saying: "Verily, when one of you stands in prayer, he is privately conversing with his Lord, so let each one of you know what he is privately conversing with his Lord, and let no one of you make his recitation in prayer loud to one another."
