حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ قَالَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَّرَ أُسَامَةَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ، فَطَعَنَ النَّاسُ فِي إِمَارَتِهِ فَقَالَ: إِنْ تَطْعَنُوا فِي إِمَارَتِهِ، فَقَدْ طَعَنْتُمْ فِي إِمَارَةِ أَبِيهِ. وَايْمُ اللهِ إِنْ كَانَ لَخَلِيقًا لِلْإِمَارَةِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ لَمِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ، وَإِنَّ ابْنَهُ هَذَا لَأَحَبُّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ بَعْدَهُ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed Usama as a commander over a people, and the people criticized his leadership. He said, "If you criticize his leadership, you have criticized the leadership of his father. By Allah, he was indeed worthy of leadership, and he was among the most beloved of people to me, and this son of his is the most beloved of people to me after him."
