حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدُرُوا لَهُ " قَالَ: وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِذَا كَانَ لَيْلَةُ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ وَكَانَ فِي السَّمَاءِ سَحَابٌ أَوْ قَتَرٌ أَصْبَحَ صَائِمًا

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd
  2. ʿUbaydullāh
  3. Nāfiʿ
  4. Ibn ʿUmar
  5. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ The month is twenty-nine days; like this, and like this, and like this. If it is obscured from you, then estimate for it." He said: "And Ibn Umar, when it was the twenty-ninth night and there were clouds or haze in the sky, would begin the next day fasting.
