حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ

كَانَ عَبْدُ اللهِ يُذَكِّرُ كُلَّ خَمِيسٍ أَوِ اثْنَيْنِ الْأَيَّامَ. قَالَ: فَقُلْنَا: أَوْ فَقِيلَ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، إِنَّا لَنُحِبُّ حَدِيثَكَ وَنَشْتَهِيهِ وَوَدِدْنَا أَنَّكَ تُذَكِّرُنَا كُلَّ يَوْمٍ. فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: إِنَّهُ لَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْ ذَاكَ إِلَّا أَنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُمِلَّكُمْ، وَإِنِّي لَأَتَخَوَّلُكُمْ بِالْمَوْعِظَةِ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَخَوَّلُنَا.

Translation

✧ Abdullah used to remind us every Thursday or Monday. He said: So we said—or it was said—'O Abu Abd al-Rahman, we love your discourse and desire it, and we wish you would remind us every day.' Abdullah said: 'Nothing prevents me from that except that I dislike wearying you, and I choose times for admonishing you just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to choose times for us.'
