حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ وَقَدْ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ عُرْفًا قَالَ: فَنَحْنُ نَأْخُذُهَا مِنْ فِيهِ رَطْبَةً إِذْ خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ، فَقَالَ: اقْتُلُوهَا. قَالَ: فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا لِنَقْتُلَهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَقَاهَا اللهُ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا.

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave when 'By those sent forth in succession' (al-Mursalat) was revealed to him. He said: We were receiving it from his mouth fresh when a snake came out upon us. He said: 'Kill it.' He said: We rushed to kill it, but it got away ahead of us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah protected it from your evil just as He protected you from its evil.'
