✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me to recite Surah al-Ahqaf, and another man recited it to him. He differed with me in one verse of it. I said: Who taught you to recite? He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me. I said: The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me such-and-such. So I went to the Messenger of God ﷺ while a man was with him and said: O Messenger of God, did you not teach me such-and-such? He said: Yes. The other man said: Did you not teach me such-and-such? He said: Yes. The face of the Messenger of God ﷺ became red. The man who was with him said: Let each of you recite as he heard, for those before you were destroyed (or caused to be destroyed) by differing. I do not know whether he commanded that or said something of his own accord.
