✧ I was hiding behind the curtains of the Kaaba when two Thaqafi men and their son-in-law, a Qurashi (or two Qurashi men and their son-in-law, a Thaqafi), entered. Their bellies were fat, but their hearts had little understanding. They conversed among themselves, and one of them said to his companion: 'Do you think that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, hears what we say?' The other said: 'I think He hears if we raise our voices, but does not hear if we speak softly.' The other said: 'If He hears anything of it, He hears all of it.' So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: 'And you were not covering yourselves, lest your hearing and your eyes should bear witness against you,' the verse.
