حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَحَجَّاجٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ

بِئْسَمَا لِأَحَدِكُمْ ( أَوْ بِئْسَمَا لِأَحَدِهِمْ ) أَنْ يَقُولَ: نَسِيتُ آيَةَ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ، بَلْ هُوَ نُسِّيَ. وَاسْتَذْكِرُوا الْقُرْآنَ؛ فَإِنَّهُ أَسْرَعُ تَفَصِّيًا مِنْ صُدُورِ الرِّجَالِ مِنَ النَّعَمِ بِعُقُلِهِ ( أَوْ مِنْ عُقُلِهِ. )

Translation

  6. al-Nabī ﷺ

✧ How bad it is for one of you (or for one of them) to say: I forgot such-and-such a verse. Rather, he was made to forget. And keep recalling the Qur'an, for it is quicker to slip away from the chests of men than camels from their tethers (or from his tethers).
