✧ We used to talk during the prayer, and some of us would greet one another, and one of us would request something he needed. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and greeted him while he was praying, but he did not return my greeting. I was seized by anxiety over what had passed and what was to come. When he finished praying, he said: “God, Mighty and Majestic, brings about whatever He wills of His command, and He has now brought about that you should not talk during the prayer.”

machine translationA group of the imams narrated it from ʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd, and the jurists have circulated it. However, the two authors of the Ṣaḥīḥ avoid narrations of ʿĀṣim because of his poor memory (sūʾ ḥifẓ), so they recorded it by another route with some of its meaning.
